Cherry Blossoms and Titanium is part of the free Love Has No Boundaries event on Goodreads.
Keenan, the submissive in a D/s relationship, feels his Master, Hutch, drifting away from him. It’s up to Keenan to be the strong one and draw out the truth from Hutch so they can face it together.
I haven’t read a lot of D/s, but I have to say this one was nicely done, focusing on the relationship itself and not the sex. It’s sweet and painful as Keenan confronts Hutch and threatens to leave, reminding Hutch that he is part of the relationship as well. Keenan finally draws out the truth from Hutch – that he’s having a health scare – and they face the result as the phone rings, leaving us with a cliffhanger happy-for-now.
I have to applaud the author for dealing with a medical issue that’s rare and misunderstood among men, and for depicting a D/s relationship without being obsessed about the sex part of it. I was really quite moved by this short story, although it is very short at just under three thousand words. Good things come in small packages, I suppose! I would love to see more of these two and their relationship, but as it stands, Cherry Blossoms and Titanium is a bittersweet short that will make your heart ache and mend it all at once.
