I picked up Golden Boys during a free promotion on Amazon. I liked that it gave us an African-American perspective on homosexuality and coming out in a genre often dominated by white characters. I also liked that the characters were not shoehorned into a happy ending in a world that’s not going to accept them so easily; the happy-for-now ending is pulled off perfectly and makes the story believable.
I would say that I would have liked to have seen more of Jell’s world; his friends in the hip-hop business etc, to give a clearer picture of who Jell is when he’s not around Ethan. Still, this is a great story and Green’s writing is solid, giving a clear sense of place and good character development. I look forward to reading more of her work.
